Desires

Today in relief society we talked about... wait for it...

MARRIAGE!

Well, the lesson wasn't actually about marriage, but because we are all 20-something-single-mormon-females it HAS to be about marriage or we'd all forget that we want to be married AND THEN WHO WOULD PROVIDE THE CASSEROLES TO WARD FUNCTIONS!?

Anyway, the lesson was really about desires (to be married). At the beginning of the class we were all asked to take out a piece of paper and write down what our desires in life are (who we want to become, what is most important to us, etc).

I did not hesitate.
And then I drew a picture.
Why yes, that IS me slaying zombies while riding my trusty elephant!

With all my problems with the whole singles-ward-marriage-prep-talk thing aside, this lesson really did get me thinking about my desires in life AND marriage. I'm a pretty focused and goal achieving person anyway (read: doesn't have a dating life), but it's always good to list things out and give them air to breathe. So, here you go...

Life Desires
Teach photography in foreign places.
Live in a few different countries.
Visit every continent.
Know at least one other language fluently.
Be an excellent cook.
Laugh everyday. Make others laugh everyday.
Take an important photograph.
Treat my body with respect.
Grow a successful garden and share all the produce with my neighbors.
Enjoy others.
Serve unselfishly.
Bask in others' happiness.
Adopt children.
Create home.
Live a life for others using my own unique self and talents.
Be remembered for something good.

Marriage Desires
Pretty much everything from my life desires list, but with a cool teammate who has a list of their own that they want me to be apart of.

I'd say that I'm aligning my life in the way that will help me achieve all the things on my life desires list, the only problem is that darn marriage desires list. Unfortunately I've yet to find any guy resembling that. So, if any of you see him, point me in that direction. (He's probably just been too busy slaying zombies to notice his cute help meet over here.)

Nuclear Dating, or, Welcome to Provo

As some of you cute little stalkers know, I just moved into a new house. Said house happens to reside about 4 blocks from BYU campus in Provo, Utah. Because of the proximity of my house to breed 'em young university, it's a law that my roommates and I MUST talk about dating and boys at least 80% of the time (the other 20% is left for trading sewing secrets and swapping casserole recipes). If we don't, we risk the chance of either 1.) dying or 2.) not marrying before we turn 27, which is as good as dying in these parts.

To help us not be one of those poor unfortunate souls who has to ENDURE being single in their 30's (the horrors!!), I found a little video that can help benefit us all. Please be prepared with a paper and pencil to take notes.
Does anyone else find it hilarious and/or horrifying and/or outrageously endearing that 1950's dating videos are EXACTLY like Utah-Mormon dating in 2011?

peace,
k.

I'd Like To Bare My Testimony, I Know America Is True...

So I just moved to a new house. This means I get to attend a new singles ward...

*sigh*

For all of you No-Mos out there, singles wards are meat market churches for the lowly unmarried crowd in the Mormon church.

Today was fast and testimony meeting, and it ALL pretty much went a little something like this:

Hi, for those of you who don't know me I'm ______.
(insert awkward attempt at humor)
I just wanted to get up and say how thankful I am for the freedoms we enjoy and the agency that our troops fight for daily. I know America is the land prepared for the gospel to come forth in these latter days.
(insert long and strange story about freedom)
I'm just so thankful to live in America.
(close)

*sigh again*

So, first off, I know it's the 4th of July tomorrow and all... but what happened to... you know... Christ? Yeah, that minor character who atoned for everyone's sins or whatever? Isn't he sort of the point of why we come to church? Don't get me wrong, you can love America and freedom all you want, but don't bare your testimony about it at church! Yes, EVEN on the 3rd of July! Testimonies are about Jesus and Jesus wasn't even American (or Republican or caucasian).

Yes, America is cool. And freedom? Awesome. But if you're a Mormon, Christ did so much more than what America did any day. Let's keep MoMo props where MoMo props are due: our Savior, which was not America.

*gets off soap box*
